Compaction Techniques
Compaction Techniques of a joint over notch wedge joint in adjacent lane.
"Maryland Style of pinching joint"
-1st pass with breakdown roller stay away from the edge of the joint approx. 12". This will stabilize the material in that 12" of uncompacted mat.
-2nd pass, breakdown roller compacts the 12" section of mat on the joint. This will force/compact the material straight down on top of the notch-wedge joint. Continue with the rest of the compaction pattern. This is the correct way to get density in the joint. We have achieved density in the joint ranging from 90%-93% with 12.5mm 64-22 WMA 2" depth.
